Pido: In case people aren't familiar with you, would you mind sharing what you do?
Chinkee: I am wealth & life coach whose wisdom and strength are drawn from a life full of challenges. Born in Tondo, Manila of Chinese parentage, I am the eldest of three children. After my father experienced big losses in business, I started to realize the importance of perseverance and hard work at a very young age.
The crisis brought me to Divisoria where I bought anything that I could peddle to classmates and friends, including toilet papers, to help augment my family income. That was when I discovered the value of savings. It was at this point in my life where I developed my business acumen. In the course of my early start as a budding entrepreneur and the different challenges it presented, my vision in life became crystal clear: to be a very successful entrepreneur who will be at the providing end of earning opportunities for people who need them.
The succeeding parts of my life witnessed the realization of this vision as I embarked on various ventures where I always figured out ways to reap good returns. My firm belief is to “just help enough people get what they want and you will also get want you want in life.” I have given talks to retirees, executives, private as well as government employees, students, church leaders, and even out-of-school youth. I have, moreover, helped and coached over 50 people to become millionaires in their businesses.
Pido: What made you decide to become a motivational speaker? Did you ever imagine you would be one?
Chinkee: Because of the hardships that I experienced when I was young. This inspired me to also encourage and motivate others, to start dreaming and believing – from nothing to something, from depression to inspiration. If it happened to me, it can also happen to them.
I never dreamt that I would become one. But I just felt that God allowed me to go through trials and hardships in order to inspire others to just keep on believing and never give up. You can lose everything but never HOPE, because if there is hope tomorrow, there is power today. But when there is no hope tomorrow, there is no power today.
Pido: Why are you so passionate about helping others?
Chinkee: This is what I really love to do - To inspire, to motivate, to challenge, to push people out of their comfort zones. To make them believe that they have what it takes for them to become successful. People, situation, circumstance can stop you temporarily but only YOU can stop yourself permanently.
Helping others to get out of their hopeless situation is my passion -- helping others to become financially free and debt free and helping them to live life to the fullest.
Pido: You've worked with various groups and organizations in the Philippines and abroad especially in the area of personal finance, was there ever a season in your life when you worried and failed in this area as well? How did you overcome it?
Chinkee: Yes, everyone experience fear in their lives. Some fear of rejection, fear of the unknown, fear of what others might say or even fear of failure. Especially on me end, I do not want to go back where I came from. It is so hard to live without money.
When I attended a life changing seminar that said, “what you feed in your mind becomes stronger and what you starve becomes weaker,” I realized that the more I focus on worry and fear, the more it becomes bigger and harder. The reason why fear was so strong and prevalent in my life was because that was what I was thinking and feeding inside my mind. So I discovered that I had to change my mindset and the way I think in order to change the way I live. I started to read books, attend seminars and find mentors who would speak into my life. Then the fear started to change into faith. From being discouraged, I became encouraged -- from depression to inspiration, to start all over again.
Pido: You have written quite a number of inspiring books, who is your inspiration in writing all these?
Chinkee: Top on the list will be no other than Mr. Francis Kong.
He is also an author, writer, motivational speaker. He was the one who challenged and mentored me to write my first book. One thing I like from him is not his eloquence in communication but how Francis really walks the talk. He lives what he preaches. This inspired me to also share what God has done in my life.
Pido: Have you worked with OFWs before? What is the most common issue that you assist clients with?
Chinkee: Yes, I have worked with OFWs. Sad to say, millions of OFWs are scattered worldwide but they are all experiencing the same issues.
One DAY MILLIONAIRE Mentality
They have been experiencing so much difficulties and hardships. Once they start earning money, they immediately spend all the money they earn, buying new things like new cell phones, gadgets, LED flat TV screen, clothes and jewelries. It seems like that they want to experience how a rich person feels when they can buy what they want.
Savior Mentality
Some OFWs feel that they are the messiah of their family. So, it is only one feeding the whole barangay. In the process, their life gets harder since most of their family and relatives are dependent on one person’s income.
Pasalubong Mentality
Everytime when they come home, the end up broke again. Some felt the pressure to bring their friends and relatives gifts when they come back for vacation. There are some who avoid coming home since their friends and relatives are expecting the gifts rather the gift giver.
Pido: You have been a successful motivational speaker as well as a best selling author, what else would you like to do in the future? How else do you want to help other people?
Chinkee: I would want to continue to do what God has started with me. God willing that I will be able to bring my message not only to our kababayans but also to other nationalities. I believe the message of faith and hope should be shared to everyone, in spite of your financial status or race. I want to continue to write, speak and also do online mentoring programs in order to reach more people.
